Last Monday, I attended a teaching training at the
institution where I work in. But it was more likely a sharing and motivating
workshop. We were given some creative teaching techniques that can be applied
in classroom. Unfortunately, because the speaker was a math teacher and what he
gave to us was more about how to teach math. Me? I’m an English teacher to be
(hehe) and anything discussed there cannot be really applicable for teaching
language (sigh).
But from many things I got there, one thing I like was (I don’t
know if you have ever heard about this or not) about the carrot, egg, and
coffee powder.
If you were one of those things, what would it be? Carrot?
Egg? Or coffee powder?
Well, imagine you were carrot; you were orange, fresh, hard,
and strong. Then someone poached you in boiling water for 15 minutes. What
would happen to you? Too cooked? Well, you would be very soft, flabby… weak! You
were not the carrot you used to be. Water had changed you.
If you choose egg, something has smooth and soft substance
inside strong shell. But then someone poached you in boiling water for 15
minutes. What would happen to you? Too cooked? Yes, but otherwise you became
weak like a carrot, you would be hard, very hard. Even you could break the
shell. You would be very hard. Water had changed you.
The last is… coffee powder. Someone would pour a
hot, even a boiling water on you. What would happen next? The water became
darker and darker. You blackened the water. How many times someone changed the
water, you could always make it darker. Every time you change the water, the water will still be dark.
So, imagine that the water is you life problem. Would you stay with your first option?
But I personally choose coffee powder. If you know what I mean :)
It's not only because I like coffee, BUT... Water cannot change coffee powder. Otherwise, it will make the coffee powder more valuable :))
The hotter the water, the more aromatic the coffee. The more aromatic the coffee, so the more expensive the price.
Well, once again, if you know what I mean :))
So, be like the coffee powder; the bigger your problem is, it must change you into a better person. Not the weak or the hard one.
You're strong but you're still tender.
This also must be applied to my life :)
Have a beautiful Thursday night, fellas :)
